When I press the power button the power LED lights up and the wireless light lights up amber, Fans spin up and it tries to read the cd drive. I have read about crisis disk and after many attempts finally got the laptop in recovery mode (power leds flashing constantly) by holding FN+F when turning on but it doesn't try to read my USB floppy drive or USB thumbdrive. Is there some recovery CD for this laptop that will re-write the bios? I did leave the laptop turned on yester day for maybe an hour and when I got back and opened the lid it was on the boot screen telling me the bios is corrupt. I pressed F1 to continue and windows all booted up fine but when I re-booted it was back to the black screen again. You have 1MB phonix BIOS, try reading this old thread in BSF forum, Buy USB floppy, there is other method by using USB thumb drive but USB floppy drive work 100% For your model that have 1MB of Phoenix BIOS, try downloading Emergency Crisis Tool. To make it easy here is the step you have to do From fabio84 post with slight change for your model • Download on hp support. • Extract file with winrar or • Rename *.wph file into BIOS.WPH • Download file (the same file as above) • Extract file, insert floppy disk and click on CRISDISK.BAT • Read a instruction and create a floppy. • Move your BIOS.WPH into floppy and overwrite. • Remove the battery from the dead laptop and remove the power cord from the dead laptop. • Press fn+b or win+b (was win+b for me) • While keeping the key pressed, plug the power cord and power on • The external floppy drive usb run • Wait 4-5 min. The system run beep. Thanks for your reply. I have tried all the USB ports with usb floppy, usb thumbdrive and tried bootable cd's all with no luck. I left it on over night to see if it would post and no luck. I'm glad to know the power light flashing is the indicator for Emergency BIOS procedure:D But to get the power lights to flash I dont have to hold any keys other than the power button. If i power on the laptop and keep holding the power button until it switches off then take the power lead out and plug it back in while still holding the power button then release and press it the lights begin to flash. Is there any other keys I could try holding to get it to read from USB? I'm going to give up on it soon and buy a new bios chip if I can't fix it.
